Globalization and construction industry development: implications of recent developments in the construction sector in Asia

Comments on significant new developments in the Asian region and identifies some issues. Looks at studies of 12 Asian economies with particular focus on the construction sector. Reviews the economic background and construction sector in the countries studied; institutional, legal and economic reforms; major trends in construction markets; possible negative local short-term implications of increasing globalization. Illustrates the dilemma that construction services could grow at the expense of the indigenous sectors of developing countries, using Japan as a case study.
