Examines changes to empty rates liabilities which were enforced on 1 April 2008. These reduce the period of some industrial exemptions, including manufacturing, storage, processing and electricity generation, from an indefinite period to six months. Property owned by companies in administration is to be exempted where the business itself is not in occupation. Covers the Regulations and sections of the Rating (Empty Properties) Act 2007 which are now in force. These largely revise matters of collection and enforcement. They are intended to increase the incentive to reuse or redevelop unused properties.
