The figures reveal that in the quarter ending June 2004 there were 46.9 thousand housing starts and 38.7 thousand completions - both up 10% on the same period in 2003. In the 12 months to the end of June 2004, starts were up in all regions - the north east increased by 2%, Yorkshire and the Humber 10%, East Midlands 6%, London 6%, South East 11% and the East only 2%.
