Updated estimates are that 74% of 2006's new dwellings were built on previously developed land, including conversions. This is down from 77% in 2005, the first decrease since 1997. New dwellings were built at an average density of 41 per hectare. This is a rise from the 25 dwellings per hectare in 2002, but around the same mark as the 40 averaged in 2005.
